Musical Bio:

Though I played alto saxophone in my Junior High School marching band, I didn't get around to studying music till many years later. I took musicianship, harmony and analysis at Oakland's Laney College from long time department chairman, Elvo D'Amante. I will always remember how he stood over us with a whip, making sure we worked hard. He told us to never be satisfied with being just another "Joe-ride-a-bike!"  Later Jay Lehmann took over the Laney Stage Band and I started to get some real experience in performing. He taught me some simple but invaluable lessons about improvisation. Also, I learned about some of the great writer/arrangers for Big Band from Mr. Lehmann.

Saxes:

  • Selmer Mark VI Alto
  • Yamaha YSS-62 Tenor
  • Selmer Mark VI Baritone
  • Yanigasawa Elmolina Soprano
